Appellation
Provence, France
Varietal Composition
56% Grenache, 32% Tibouren, 6% Cinsault, 4% Syrah, 2% Mourvèdre
Vintage Notes
2018 was with an unusually wet spring! Therefore the mildew pressure was constant this year especially with the Grenache grape which is a variety susceptible to late blight. Summer time and harvest period were much more favorable with warm days and cooler nights to achieve optimal ripeness for Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre...Volume is down again at TORPEZ winery but the quality is superb!
Winemaking
We follow every vineyard plot very carefully especially the local and old Tibouren grape. All grapes are only picked when perfectly ripe in late August, early September. These are brought down to a temperature of 5-8°C (41-46°F) as soon as they arrive at the cellar. Then they are gently pressed and the must is protected by low temperatures and a blanket of nitrogen gas. After the must has been racked, temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation takes place for 3-4 weeks on the lees with regular stirring.
Tasting Notes
Beautiful pale pink lychee color. Elegant and rich nose with aromas of white flowers (orange blossom), notes of red berries (red-currant) with some iodized and liquorice touches. Crisp and full-bodied on the palate, with a citrusy freshness, slight saltiness and eucalyptus notes. A very expressive wine with a complex texture in the mouth that lead into a lengthy finish on the palate.
